BEHIND THE LENS

Drawn to the wild.

I’m Anna Orr, a wildlife photographer drawn to the fleeting, unscripted moments that reveal an animal simply being wild. From cloud forests to open savannas, I photograph wildlife with a focus on story, place, and the connection between an animal and the world it calls home.

MY STORY

The path wasn't a straight one.

Photography has been part of my life since high school, but for years it remained simply something I loved. My path took me somewhere entirely different—to a career as an attorney—while photography stayed quietly in the background.

Years later, volunteering at a big cat rescue brought me closer to the animals I had always been fascinated by. Then came a trip to Costa Rica, where being surrounded by wildlife with a camera in my hands changed the way I experienced both. Photography became less about documenting what I saw and more about preserving what it felt like to be there.

Since then, that curiosity has taken me from the cloud forests of Colombia to the savannas of Kenya and to wild places much closer to home. Yet no matter where I am, I find myself searching for the same thing: those fleeting, unscripted moments when an animal is simply being wild.

Those are the moments I want to preserve—and the stories I want my photographs to tell.

WHY I PHOTOGRAPH

More than a photograph.

Wildlife photography gives us the chance to see into lives we might otherwise never encounter. For me, that comes with a responsibility—not only to photograph animals with respect, but to tell stories that deepen our connection to the wild places they depend on.

I hope my photographs invite people to look a little longer, become a little more curious, and ultimately care a little more about the wild world we share.
